QUITO
Capital of the Ecuador
Ecuador, located in South America, has beautiful landscapes and welcoming people. The UNESCO nominated its capital Quito, “world heritage.” This far away land can probably lead you to reassess your life choices and dream of a new beginning with more nature and tradition. Quito is in the mountains and has been able to protect its history. Unlike most of Latin American cities, Quito works really hard to restore and renovate its town. You will have tons of places to discover. The Historical Quarter
This neighborhood is proof of the long and religious history of the country. There are tons of cathedrals and churches along the avenues. The Church “Compania de Jesus” will impress you with its gold paint. While walking around you will see many squares and architectural treasures. Enjoy strolling the narrow streets while admiring the architecture.
The restaurant “Vista Hermosa” is one of the best spots to watch the sunset. On the roof section, you will have a 360-degree view of the site. The food is very good and reasonably priced. You can eat lasagna or churrasco among many other dishes.
La Ronda
This street has been entirely renovated and it is currently one of the most beautiful in the city. This narrow street offers a wide range of restaurants and art craft stores. Do not hesitate to check out what is hidden behind the big wooden doors, the private gardens and fountains will surprise you. It is like a little village. The street ends by tunnels.
The Cable Car/ Teleférico
The cable car will take you up 4050 meters high; needless to say you will have an astonishing view of the city and the mountains. On a sunny day you can see the Cotopaxi volcano perfectly. At this height, the air is pure and oxygen scarce so every effort will be very tiring. Pregnant women and elders will have to be careful. The bravest will be able to go down the hill riding a mountain bike or a horse.
Get to the cable car before 10 a.m. if you do not want to wait in line. Pick a sunny day for the best view and don’t forget an extra jacket because it can get chilly. Sunscreen is also recommended.

La Mitad del Mundo
The “Mitad del Mundo” is located 45 minutes away from the city but it is a must-do. This is where you will see the Ecuadorian line, separating the north and the south of the world. There are two locations: one calculated by the Europeans dating back to the 18th and another calculated by the Incas before Christ. Which one do you think is the correct one? You have to go to both, because in the Inca’s location there is a temple where you will experience the highest magnetic forces in different ways. Oh, by the way, the Incas were right!
Around Quito
When you exit Quito, you enter a new world, a more traditional and simple region. Across a path you will see a native guiding her sheep through the field or farmers working with horses like in the old times. Many of the old Haciendas became hotels and restaurants. They are a little more expensive than other places but they are worth the stop. The tip corner
Ecuador uses American Dollars as its currency.
You can bargain for everything that you want to buy in a market, so do not hesitate.
Cabs are cheap, so try to negotiate a price for the full day and you will have a private chauffeur.
Do not drink the tap water.
Do not carry valuable items around.
Do not wear leather shoes if you do not want to have to say no to shoeshine boys.
Do not walk up to the Quito Virgen. Take a cab as it will safely take you to the top.
When you leave the country, you will have to pay an airport tax. It will cost you around $30. Keep enough money for this.

A DAY WITH A MODELING AGENCY DIRECTOR
It is time to show what happens when the spot lights are off.
It is a busy day at Next Models agency Miami. The Fashion week is right around the corner, the offices and phones are busy like a bee house. With 50 male and 80 females models to place, the whole staff is in line, and Ron Gerard knows what it takes to keep the ball rolling, he has over 25 years in the business. Who better to tell us what a modeling agency’s director position is all about? As we arrived in the office, Ron Gerard already had his coffee. He arrived first early in the morning and was there until late last night. As the director, he has his hand on everything. Not only does he delegate all of the staff’s responsibilities but he is the link between them. He also manages 20 models and 30% of the clients. He loves his job and was more than happy to talk to Modelixir.
If a model ever wants to get signed, Ron will be the one deciding if they will become a Next Model, as well as their career path. He will assess their level and potential, and make sure that foreign models have their visa and living situation taken care of in Miami.
When we asked him how he selected female models, he gave us an unexpected answer: “usually it is about 60% look and 40% personality. In our market, personality and professionalism play a big part.” In other words ladies, being beautiful is not what will make you stand out. Like we talked about in our other articles, you have to be professional and approachable. If you are a drama queen, no matter how beautiful you are, you won’t make it in the business. Keep the diva attitude for your boyfriend!
The same idea if you are a male. Your need a personality, nice body, and “some sort of edge.” In the Miami market, the agencies are not looking for breathtaking or the extremely good-looking type, they prefer someone to be friendly and unique. All is said!
For those who think that they have all this, he adds, “For a model to be successful they need to have a great agency, a great booker, professionalism, and a desire to really want it.” That is what all supermodels have, plus good timing.
Since Modelixir is thriving to show beauty in all its colors and shapes, we could not help but notice that the market has changed in the past 20 years, Ron agreed but for different reasons. “I think the market is just saturated with more models than clients. The industry has changed worldwide, and clients are looking for a different type of model. Before the models we used to look for were more glamourous and when they walk into a room you knew they were model and they had a certain presence. Nowadays clients are looking for more relatable models, therefore more ‘normal’ people.” But we asked him who dictates the beauty criteria and for him it is simple, “clients tell us what they want.”
Ron explained that not all agencies are looking for the same type of model, so you have to know which door to push. If you have a high fashion look, Hello New York, Paris, and Milan. If you are a commercial model, Miami and LA are for you. Get your sunscreen ready!
We did not forget to ask him about the selection of test photographers. He said the best way is to meet with the agency staff. They love fresh, new, and creative photographers. So get your portfolio together and give it a try, they might like you! If you dream big and want to become the next Lachapelle then you have to have “a great eye and creativity.”
Interview Of A ... Kid Photographer
This month, we have the opportunity to meet with Claudia Velasco, a published photographer located in Ecuador but who travels all over the world.
Claudia is able to express emotions in each photo she takes.
She is very talented and her pictures of babies and kids are unique as they naturally capture the innocence and spontaneity of her tiny subject.
Let’s sit, talk and learn.
Claudia VELASCO
1. How and when did you become interested in photography? Describe your photography experience/education.
I took a photography class in high school, and ever since then I’ve always tried to take good pictures, even with point and shoot cameras. After high school I entered veterinary school, but soon found that I was more of an arts person. I decided to give photography a try; it was something that had always come easy to me, unlike vet school.
2. What kind of camera do you use?
Nikon D700, but I like Cannons just as well.
3. Besides your camera, what equipment/tools do you use most in your work?
I use a reflector to bounce natural light onto the subject. I shy away from artificial lighting.
4. Describe your overall photography aesthetic or style.
I like natural looking photos, nothing too fashionable or posed, in objects as well as people. I love natural light in all its forms, be it bright sunlight or dark shadowy places with a small beam of light coming through.
5. What inspires your work (e.g., other photographers, nature, fashion, etc.)
I do look to other photographers worldwide to find out what’s out there and keep current. However, I find the most inspiration in my subjects and the “vibes” they project. If a person is very happy I’ll create crazy and fun images, if the person is mellow, I’ll go for a more melancholic look.
6. What is your most striking memory as a photographer?
In Cannes, France, we had to wake up at five o’clock in the morning to start a shoot. The sky was a wonderful shade of orange and red. I grabbed my camera and took a few shots of a yacht along with the sunrise - it was unforgettable.
7. What is your favorite form of photography and why? What are some of your favorite subjects?
I love all kinds of photography as long as I can get a feeling out of it. When you look at the image you have to feel what the subject is feeling. When the subject is food, you have to feel the flavors of the image in your mouth. I don’t like it when all you see is a product.
 8. In your opinion, what makes a good photo?
When you can see the purpose of the photographer in the image, it’s a perfect shot. For example, sometimes an image is grainy or dark, but if it’s well taken, you can see that the photographer meant to do it that way. If you see an image that is dark and grainy and you can tell the photographer had no idea what they were doing, then it’s a terrible shot no matter how artistic the photographer claims it to be.
9. Which qualities do you look for in a model? Are you hands-on or do you prefer to stay behind the camera?
I love it when: 1. She knows her good side. 2. She spends hours doing the same shot until it’s done right and does not complain because she knows it has to be perfect. 3. She throws in ideas that can better the shot. 4. She has no limitations.
10. What advice would you give to an aspiring photographer?
Assist as many different types of photographers as you can before you throw yourself out there alone. You need to know how to handle every type of client, and how to handle different situations in a shoot, and the best way is by learning from the best.
11. What are the most common photography mistakes, and what’s your advice on how to avoid them?
Using too much lighting and blowing up the image.
12. What are your views in photo editing? Describe your process.
It’s long and tedious; I hire someone to do it. Otherwise I lose time and money doing it myself.
13. Which historical event would you have liked to shoot?
The fall of the Berlin Wall.
14. How do you think the Internet has affected the photography industry? (i.e., online stores, industry-specific websites, forums, etc.)
People look for low quality images to place in their sites and force the market to lower prices… Other than that it has not affected it, it has pushed it foreward.
15. Which photographers do you look up to and why?
Sally Mann - She did what she liked in photography and did it wonderfully, even in the face of criticism regarding her ideas and subjects.
Yervant - The best wedding photographer ever. He brings out the sexiness in a boring couple.
William Wegman – He caught the artistic soul of his dogs in all his shots.
Cartier Bresson - Master of black and white.
And many others…

Beauty - Special Effects and everything in between!!
The perfect glamour girls like Bridgette Bardot and Marilyn Monroe had some great makeup and hair styles! Here is a guide to looking like your favorite 1950s stars.
Every beauty from this era started her look by setting her locks in pin curls. Doing the authentic wet set on your own can be a little difficult, so I like to cheat a little and just use very small hot rollers. While your hair is setting and out of the way, let’s do your face!
A tan was not yet in style, so start with a nice light foundation and just a bit of peachy blush.
Now the best part! The eyes! Eye makeup in the 50s is my favorite and can be really easy, but the products you use for it are important. Start with a super shimmer white eye shadow and cover the whole lid. Then add even more white by using a white liner pencil and lining the water line. What’s that you ask? Ok, I will tell you. It’s the little ledge of skin above your lower lashes right before you hit your eyeballs. But try not to poke yourself or you will get red eye…not so glamorous! By doing this you will make your eyes appear wider. It is perfect for the smaller-eyed ladies.
Now, find yourself a great angled eyeliner brush and a gel based pot liner. Mac makes a great one! But everyone has their preferences so once you find yours, stick to it…(until it gets discontinued because you know makeup companies always discontinue the best products!) Back to the makeup…
Dip the brush into the pot and carefully line from the outside in. The tricky part is to make the line nice and even as we do not blend. Then turn the brush around and create the little “wings” at the side of each eye. This is the 1950s trademark! But is also even more tricky than the last step! You can’t be a glamour girl with uneven eyeliner! Marilyn Monroe would be ashamed. I have found that the easiest way to do this is to really not think too hard about. The more you fret, the more your hand shakes and the more uneven it will turn out. Just a quick little flick of the wrist should do it.
The bigger the better
Up until now,the lipsticks have stayed a bit matte or flat but the 50s changed all that! Cover your lips with the brightest red you can handle and add a high gloss over the top. The bigger the better! If you have smaller lips, add some liner outside the lines to create a fuller look.
Now that your face is fabulous, time to take out the curlers and finish the hair. To keep the pin curl style make sure the curl stays spiral when taking it out the roller. Taking each curl separately, pin all the hair from the crown up on the top of the head. Now you can leave the rest down in pretty spirals or, like we did here, pin them to the side for a bit of a modern 50’s twist.
Now go put on your best swing dress, pop up that collar, and head to the nearest sock hop. Your Elvis records are waiting!

 How to Select Your Perfume
The market for perfume is huge and so are the store aisles. Finding the perfume made for you might seem complicated. It has to smell good (obviously) but you also want it to be unique. It is crucial not to smell like everyone else! There are three things you should to take into account while buying your fragrance.
What is your budget?
You will find perfume for every budget and taste so before you go to the store, determine how much you are willing to spend. The price will be the first selection.
What kind of scent do you prefer?
Do you like fruity or woody perfume? A fresh and citrus scent or a stronger scent? We all have our opinion and favorites. Perfumes depend on the occasion and the season. During summer time, try to use light and alcohol free fragrances to avoid a clash in the perfume with heat and sweat. Are you going out? A stronger, more sensual smell can be used for special occasions.
Be careful not to pick a very strong scent if you are in a small room, as you would not want to overwhelm others around you and also because some people are allergic to perfume.
Take Your Time!
Your nose can only analyze a limited amount of fragrances. Try not to spray perfume all over your body; instead favor the little piece of paper when choosing your perfume. Make a first selection. Give yourself a few minutes and then try another scent. If you have a significant other, ask his/her opinion, because after all they will be the ones in closest proximity to you . Once you have chosen a couple of fragrances , try them on your skin. Wait a couple of minutes and check which one is the best.
With all this, your shopping spree should be more enjoyable. I hope you will find YOUR perfume, the one that will define you and that people will associate with you with their eyes closed.

Religion Cozy Gym Grey Cotton Sweat Pants BREAKFAST 5 Foods for a day full of energy
Your energy level throughout the day depends on what you ate for breakfast. If you skip your meal, you might have to deal with a headache, mood swings, lack of concentration and even weight gain because you will eat more during the day. On top of that, you will miss on the vitamin intake. An express breakfast without rich food is also not recommended. Breakfast has to be respected so take the time. Here is a list of the food you should eat on a daily basis for their short and long term benefits. With them, you will feel full, energized, and you will give your body all it needs to start the day.
Whole-wheat cereals
It can be bread or cereals, but they have to be whole wheat because it brings vitamins, nutrients, minerals and fiber. This type of food helps to reduce heart disease and helps you eat less because it keeps you full longer.
Proteins
It has been proven that protein keeps you full longer so include proteins in every meal. You can eat 1 egg and 3 egg whites, or 3.5 ounces of white meat a day.
Nuts
Nuts and almonds contain healthy fat and help maintain your energy level. You can also eat pistachios, which have the benefit of helping the cholesterol level.
Fruits and vegetables
It is very hard to eat the daily portions of fruits and vegetables when a person skips breakfast. The ideal is 10 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. They have to be diversified: some orange, some green, and some white… If you struggle with the quantity, try to increase by one of what your eating now because vegetables and fruits are extremely important to fight aging, stress, obesity, and diseases.
Tea
Tea is full of antioxidants known to boost your immune system and prevent premature aging. Try to drink green tea because it has more benefits and avoid caffeine.
Potiche THE FEAR (Crystal Kolber)
Do you ever catch a glimpse of an exploited women? They are everywhere! Have you ever felt like your body was designed for entertainment? Do you feel like your personal space is constantly encroached upon when you are just trying to walk down the street? Sadly, I find myself answering yes to these questions every day.
Women for sale are everywhere and personally, I am offended. Every other taxi cab I see has a half-naked woman on its’ plastic roof panels advertising a strip club and the same for billboards—I am over it. I have grown weary of driving down a major street where I live to see three female strips clubs and a sex shop within a one mile radius. I might be less offended if on the opposite side of the road I saw three male strip clubs. Just open up any local periodical and notice that the last four pages are filled with ads for call girls. I was under the impression that prostitution was illegal.
At what point did women for sale become a culturally accepted pastime? Just because it is the world’s oldest profession doesn’t make it right, sort of like slavery—Long history, terrible idea. As time progresses I am disturbed by the lack of progression regarding how women are viewed. I find it degrading that I am constantly inundated with the notion that we as women are for sale.
There are numerous underage girls working in strip clubs and out on the streets, which brings me to the point of men’s desires. A real man would be turned off by seeing a trafficked immigrant or a young girl from a broken home supporting her drug habit by selling herself for money. He would desire to help not touch—this unfortunately is not the case. Young girls in the sex industry are solely exploited; it is not even an issue of self-esteem for them.
If the women of this trade had the confidence to be more than sexual objects, I can assure you that these perverse men would be the last people that they would spend a minute of their time with. I
could not imagine spending my money to touch someone who is actually
repulsed by me, it’s rather pathetic. The Fear is a big issue for me. No man will ever know what
The Fear feels like because they are the perpetrators. The Fear is when you pull into your driveway and instinctively know that you have get to your front door and find the right key so that you are not forced by someone into your home. According to RAINN, (Rape, Abuse, & Incest, National, Network) every two minutes someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. The Fear is when you see a man’s car broken down on the side of the road, and as a woman, as much as you want to stop and help him, you know that by doing so it would be an unsafe judgment call. The Fear is when you go outside for a walk and “hey baby” is shouted at you accompanied by hi-i-am-here-to-make-feel-as-uncomfortable-as-possible-and-ruin-your-walk honks— what you are wearing is not even a factor. My best friend said it best, “If a woman was just raped, bloody, and crawling on the road, men would still drive by and honk.”
No, a man can never understand the fear. I will not say that all men are subhuman; there some good fishes in this polluted sea but the majority rules, and when taxi cabs and billboards advertise women for sale, you know who the majority is.

Alfred Kendrick Fur ? More Consumers Are Saying “Fake It” or “Furget It”
If you’d rather go naked than wear fur, you’re in good company. Olivia Munn, Penélope Cruz, Charlize Theron, Taraji P. Henson, Eva Mendes, and Tim Gunn are just a few of the compassionate celebrities who have teamed up with PETA—the world’s largest animal rights group—to speak out against fur.
Munn, who went au naturel in her sexy PETA ad, believes that no one should need fur to feel beautiful. As Munn explains in her recent exposé of fur farms in China, animals killed for their fur are often beaten and even skinned alive.
When PETA Asia-Pacific investigated fur farms and markets in China (the world’s largest fur exporter), it found that raccoon dogs are beaten with steel pipes and left to die slowly as they writhe in agony in full view of other animals. Rabbits’ necks are broken while the animals are still conscious and able to feel pain. Animals on fur farms are confined to barren wire cages—exposed to all weather extremes as piles of waste accumulate below them. Many animals frantically pace and turn in circles in their cages.
Fortunately, real fur is on the way out. «The fur trend in the U.S. is toward fake,» says Amy Lechner, an analyst with Pell Research, which estimates that the sales of faux fur will increase by 30 percent over the next two years.
Lawmakers and trend makers alike are responding to this growing anti-fur sentiment. Last year, the European Parliament approved a new regulation requiring that all clothing containing fur or leather be clearly marked with labels stating, «Non-textile parts of animal origin.» West Hollywood, California, recently approved a ban on the sale of new fur apparel within the city limits, becoming the first fur-free city in the U.S.
Because of the cruelty inherent in the fur industry, a rapidly growing number of designers including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Marc Bouwer, Vivienne Westwood, Perry Ellis, Liz Claiborne, and others—have chosen to create wonderful work without using animal fur. In 2010 at Paris Fashion Week, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld proclaimed, «It’s the triumph of fake fur … because fake fur changed so much and became so great now that you can hardly see a difference.» Not only have a long list of celebrities sworn off fur, first ladies Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy also announced that they too do not wear fur.
While previous generations may have worn real fur without considering its impact on animals and the environment, today’s consumers know that there is simply no kind way to rip the skin off animals’ backs. «There’s nothing good about pretending like you don’t know,» says Munn.
Taking a stand against an industry that confines animals to cramped cages, violently beats them and rips the skin off their bodies is simple—just ban fur from your own closet.
