Welcome to the 17th edition of Modelixir! Dear readers, Let’s start off by wishing you a happy and healthy new year 2013. We hoped you enjoyed 2012 as if it was the last one and that you started the new year with a heart full of love, your head on your shoulders and a focused mind to stay on track after the resolutions start getting old. A lot of us see the new year as a new beginning but when we look back we realize that change is an ongoing process. Let’s remember that happiness comes from within and that if things don’t work out it is because something better is waiting for you. In this consumerist world of age, we tend to consider that happiness can be bought, that the more we have the better. However, it is not true. What matters is to have your primary needs met and to share with others. For those who have traveled to countries where people have “less” didn’t you feel like they had so much to offer? Didn’t their smiles warm the deepest part of your soul? Didn’t the look in their eyes reveal a lot more than words? At Modelixir, although some might see the modeling, fashion, arts and entertainment industries as futile, for us these are creative fields that help people express themselves in unique ways. So for 2013, we will be giving you new tools to achieve your professional goals while continuing to introduce you to new talented artists. Welcome to the 16th edition of Modelixir! Dear readers, The year is almost over and we cannot help but wonder whether the Mayan’s prediction is going to happen or not. Will the world end? Is this our last magazine? We don’t think so! However, we would love to see a lot of things end and this world become a better place. We are pushed to think that inequalities are inevitable, that there is nothing to do about hunger in Africa, pollution, pesticides in our food, extinction of species, destruction of habitats, and the list goes on and on. If we really look back, things have not really changed in the last year or decade. We keep being distracted by futile things, but looking away does not make the problems disappear. What about trying to open up new perspectives for 2013? Seeing that we all share the planet, we are all citizens of one world and we have to take care of it. Our voices will be heard, but first plant the seeds of knowledge around you and make a resolution that you will actually follow. What about not using as many plastic bags when you go shopping? Or making sure you are not throwing things that will pollute the environment? What about SMILING, looking at each other, caring about one another? This edition closes a year full of emotions and dreams. We have grown so much thanks to all of you and our columnists. Modelixir does not want to be like all other fashion magazines, carrying stereotypes of how things should be, how everybody should think and look. Modelixir is for people that love arts and people in all their forms. 2013 will be a big year and we hope you will be here when we take our baby steps. For now, let’s enjoy the holidays as if they were our last! We need to focus on this togetherness and on peace. We can make changes one person at the time. Today when you go to work or school, try to look at your environment with a new eye. See the beauty around you and work towards your happiness. What really matters to you? Don’t be a victim of your situation, make it is better!
